CORNERSTONE PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES
"The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone..."
WHO WE ARE
Cornerstone is the culmination of years of experience parenting children with different needs, and sound professional training and practice.
Kevin Leong is the founder and principal psychologist at Cornerstone.
As a registered psychologist and a parent of children with different needs, Kevin has over 20 years of working with neurodiverse adults and children. The majority of Kevin’s professional time focuses on assessing, as well as providing support to the development of teenagers and adults’ social pragmatic skills. This involves for example, providing interventions to help clients develop skills such as social interaction and relationship management, independent problem-solving, and workplace self-management strategies.
Other than being a provider of psychological services, He is also actively involved in management teams in the professional psychological community, and within different social services agencies that support persons with disabilities.
SERVICES
ASSESSMENT & DIAGNOSIS
We recognize that each individual has unique learning skills and development needs. These needs may or may not be met through mainstream teaching and education methods. We provide assessments to help families:
Better understand the individual’s cognitive, learning, and independent self-management skills
Develop more effective strategies to better meet the individual's holistic learning and development goals
SOCIAL ADAPTIVE SKILLS COACHING
We believe that the ability of an individual to communicate and adapt to their social environment is an important life-skill. The ability to function successfully in a social setting requires not only the skills to communicate and interact with others, but also the motivation to sustain the use of these skills. We provide interventions to help clients:
Develop their social awareness and understanding
Learn skills to more effectively communicate and interact with others
Learn strategies to become more socially flexible and adaptive
TRANSITIONAL COACHING
Neurodiverse individuals are often challenged with situations of change. Transitions such as graduating from formal school-life into National Service, or adapting to more independent adult work-life, can cause increased anxiety and stress.
Transitional coaching provides guidance and skills-training to help the individual better adapt to their new circumstances. It also gives the individual access to objective perspectives to help them see, understand, and address their personal challenges, and promote greater self-advocacy and independent functioning.
CAREGIVER, EDUCATOR AND EMPLOYER CONSULTATION & TRAINING
Parenting, managing, and guiding an individual with different needs is a dynamic process that changes with the individual’s life stages. We provide individual and/or group consultations or training to help family, caregivers, educators, and employers:
Gain knowledge and strategies to help teach and guide the individual’s development in the home, school, or workplace settings
Learn coping and management skills and strategies to deal with the challenges caregivers and supervisors themselves often face
